5 misunderstandings about skydiving
Just say you’re planning to go skydiving and you’ll be hit with a storm of reactions: well-meaning warnings, half-truths and clichés. But skydiving today is not what it used to be. In this blog, we tackle five persistent myths — and show you why skydiving is surprisingly accessible, safe, and even educational.
1. Skydiving is extremely dangerous
This is by far the most common one. Sure, jumping out of a plane isn’t exactly chess — but modern skydiving is highly regulated. We are affiliated with the KNVvL (Royal Dutch Aviation Association) and operate under strict regulations. You jump with approved gear, automatic openers, and certified instructors. Statistically, it’s safer than many other adventure sports.
2. You have to be an adrenaline junkie
Not at all. Our participants are curious, looking to challenge themselves, or even seeking calm and focus. Skydiving is as much a mental experience as it is physical. Many are surprised by how peaceful the freefall feels.
3. I’m too old / too heavy / too inexperienced
Our courses are designed for people between 18 and 55 years old in average physical condition. We look at overall fitness — not just weight or age. And experience? You don’t need any. We’ll guide you every step of the way.
4. After your first jump, you’re on your own
If only it were that simple! During the Accelerated Freefall course, you jump together with two instructors who fly beside you and assist during the freefall. You build up gradually, until you’re ready to go solo — and only then do you truly fly on your own.
5. Skydiving is something you do once in your life
For some, once is enough. But many people get hooked after their first week. They continue towards their A-license, return every summer to France, or take it further with a skydive holiday in Morocco, at the foot of the stunning Atlas Mountains.
In conclusion
Don’t let outdated ideas hold you back. Skydiving today is safe, professionally organized, and open to anyone who’s curious and ready to step outside their comfort zone. Who knows… you might find yourself in the sky with us soon.
