5 Common Misconceptions About Skydiving

The bottom line:
Skydiving is safer, more accessible and mentally calmer than most people expect. This blog busts five common myths — and shows why learning to skydive is more achievable than you think.

What people think… and what skydiving really is

Mention you want to go skydiving, and well-meaning advice, half-truths, and clichés will come flying at you.
But modern skydiving is a completely different experience than most people imagine.
In this blog, we debunk five persistent misconceptions about skydiving — and show why jumping out of a plane today is surprisingly accessible, safe, and life-changing.

1. Skydiving is extremely dangerous

By far the most common myth. Of course, jumping isn’t exactly a chess match — but modern skydiving is extremely well-regulated.
Airboss is a proud member of the KNVvL (Royal Dutch Aeronautical Association) and operates under strict safety guidelines.
You jump with inspected gear, automatic activation devices, and certified instructors.
Statistically, skydiving today is safer than many other adventure sports.

2. You have to be an adrenaline junkie

Not at all. Most of our participants are simply curious, want to push a boundary, or seek peace and focus.
Skydiving is just as much a mental experience as a physical one.
Many people are surprised by the calm and control they feel during freefall.

3. I’m too old / too heavy / too inexperienced

Our training programs are open to people between the ages of 18 and 55 with an average level of fitness.
We focus on your overall condition, not just your age or weight.
And experience? You don’t need any. We guide you step by step toward your first jumps.

4. After your first jump, you go solo immediately

If only it were that easy! During the Accelerated Freefall (AFF) course, you first jump with two instructors flying alongside you.
You build up gradually until you’re truly ready to jump solo — literally and figuratively.

5. Skydiving is something you do once in a lifetime

For some, one jump is enough.
But many of our participants get hooked on the feeling of freedom.
They continue toward their A license, return each year to France, or reach new heights during a skydiving vacation in Morocco.
