Safe skydiving with Airboss:
reliable equipment

Last updated: 9 December 2025

The bottom line:
Skydiving starts with trusting your equipment. In this blog you will read how Airboss anchors safety in every detail, from the gear you jump with to daily checks. And why you will soon be stepping out of the aircraft with a clear head.

tl;dr:

  • At Airboss you jump with professional gear that is used worldwide and inspected to strict standards.
  • Every rig includes an automatic activation device (AAD), a reserve and is checked using fixed routines.
  • Trust grows when you understand how everything works, and you learn that step by step during your course.

Every jump starts with trust

Whether you are making your very first skydive or already have some jumps behind you, you want to be sure your equipment is in order. That is why at Airboss we only work with professional gear that is used worldwide by instructors and teams. It is tested, inspected and reliable. And it is exactly what you will be jumping with.

What makes equipment truly safe?

Skydiving equipment falls under strict international regulations. Every component, from the harness to the closing system, has to meet FAA standards such as the TSO (Technical Standard Orders). This certification guarantees that your gear is tested for strength, durability and performance under a wide range of conditions.

In the Netherlands, skydives fall under the umbrella of the KNVvL. On parachute.nl, the website of the KNVvL parachuting section, you can read more about training programmes, licences and the safety policy we also operate within.

At Airboss we use only certified and well-maintained gear. No budget shortcuts, no compromises. We invest in safety because that is the only foundation on which you can truly enjoy freefall.

What is in your rig?

You jump with a harness and container that holds two parachutes: a main canopy and a reserve. In addition, your rig includes an automatic activation device (AAD): a small computer that monitors your altitude and fall rate. If something goes wrong and you do not pull, the AAD activates the reserve for you. The system is technically complex, but very simple for you to use. It is designed to save lives when all other lines of defence have been exhausted.

If you would like to understand more clearly how an AAD actually works, watch the animation below where its functioning is explained step by step.

How an AAD works – animated explanation

An AAD is also serviced periodically by professionals according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. That way the system remains reliable, even if you never need it.

Maintenance, inspections and checklists

Your rig might look clean and straightforward, but behind the scenes a lot of work goes into it. Reserve parachutes are repacked periodically according to the applicable regulations, even if they have not been used. That may only be done by certified riggers.

At Airboss we also carry out at least one full inspection of all gear every year and we run a complete pre-jump check at the start of every jumping day. From the harness to the container, from your handles to the closing system, everything is checked. No exceptions.

You share the responsibility

During the course you not only learn what your equipment does, but also how to work with it. The different handles and what they are for. How to inspect the harness. What to look for when you put it on and close it. You learn it, you practise it and you do it yourself until it feels like a fixed routine.

In practice you will notice this from day one. Together with your instructor you run a gear check, you walk through the steps yourself and as the course progresses you take on more and more responsibility. You carry that routine into every jump you make, long after you have earned your licence.

Confidence starts with experience

I use exactly the same equipment as you do. Not because I have to, but because I trust it. I know it inside out. And I see every day how well it performs, both for beginners and for experienced jumpers.

Safety makes the difference

Skydiving asks you to let go, but not to be naive. By understanding how your equipment works, and by staying alert yourself and respecting the procedures, you create space for the real experience: focus, freedom, adrenaline and growth.
